Purpose of Coventry Safeguarding Children Board
The agencies and organisations represented on the Coventry Safeguarding Children Board (Coventry LSCB) share a statutory commitment under the Children Act 2004 to co-operate and work together to safeguard and promote the well-being of children.
It is each member's responsibility and duty to contribute to steering the strategic direction of Coventry LSCB, and to ensure implementation of both Working Together Guidance and Standard 5 of the National Service Framework.
Our Aims
The primary aims of Coventry Safeguarding Children Board (CSCB) are to coordinate and monitor the effectiveness of local work to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, ensuring joint working across services and agencies.
Objectives for 2009 – 2012:

Be clear that all partners share responsibility for all Coventry’s children and young people.

Have a shared understanding of good multidisciplinary assessment, intervention, planning and review of practice

Ensuring the recommendations of the Protection of Children in England Report, 2009 Lord Laming, are implemented.

Effective management of serious case reviews in line with new guidance as well as learning lessons.

Maintaining focus on the effectiveness of safeguarding children subject to child protection concerns

Continue to strengthen the current arrangements for monitoring the effectiveness of safeguarding arrangements, with the focus on quality of practice, and actively improving this with regard to domestic violence and neglect

Ensure the consistent application of thresholds across the city are applied consistently to safeguard children

Maintain the robustness of Child Death Reviewing arrangements, responding to the emerging issues for the city

Maintain an interagency training programme, supporting the priorities set by Board

Maintain and strengthen the working relationships with key partnerships in achieving its objectives, namely:
